Fathers
Digital cover for an essay on Fathers, the time worn mould that some aspire to including the idea of masculinity and how these ideas are passed on.
For my piece I wanted to present that perfect mid-century image of a father and son, but then disrupt the narrative of what’s considered masculine and possibly desirable from an average dad by presenting a more effeminate child, not interested in the car. Instead playing with dolls, completed by a delicate pinch around a pink mug of tea. The recognisable plush toy on the driveway, also a nod to the old Pinocchio tale; where a boy carved out of wood in the image of his father, poignant and relatable in how traits, values and image is passed along.
